Starting Over Supplies

When someone needs help starting over, Assistance League of Tucson is ready to provide that help through our program Starting Over Supplies (SOS).  This program enables people who have left shelters or abusive home situations to live independently again by providing a kit of basic housekeeping supplies, personal grooming items and other provisions tailored to the needs of individuals and families as requested by agency workers.  All of the items in the kits are new and are purchased by our volunteers.

Eleven agencies currently are working with Assistance League of Tucson:  Casa de los Niños, Child Protective Services/Aviva Children's Services, CODAC Behavioral Health, Emerge!Center Against Domestic Abuse, International Rescue, La Frontera Center Inc., New Beginnings, Old Pueblo Community Services, Open Inn, Our Family Services, The Primavera Foundation,  and Youth On their Own.

The agency workers fax a completed Starting Over Supplies form to Assistance League and members pack the requested supplies into large plastic bags.  These kits (multiple bags) are packed at our Philanthropic Programs Center and are picked up by agency workers who deliver them to those clients in need.

This program offers a new beginning for over 1300 individuals annually.  The funding for Starting Over Supplies comes from the proceeds of fundraising activities, Thrift Shop sales, donations and grants.  The cost of a kit for a family of four is approximately $140 and for a single person is $88.
